Draft:Speech Graphics

  • Comment: Now re-write it with a neutral dry tone. Theroadislong (talk) 18:45, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: I started over and have written the text from scratch. It is now shorter and I used less references which I have verified all personally to make sure they fit the content.GregorHofer (talk) 18:34, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Slightly rewording AI writing doesn't make this article any less AI generated. You need to take WP:TNT to it, blow it up and rewrite it completely using sources you find and in your own words. Sulfurboy (talk) 18:27, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Please be aware that use of LLMs to generate content for Wikipedia is not allowed, see the guideline at WP:NOLLM. They are very bad at actually summarizing sources: you will need to hand-check every claim to make sure the source actually supports it, and also that it's not so closely paraphrased as to be a copyright violation. • Comment: Have you used AI to generate any of this content? Theroadislong (talk) 16:11, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: In accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, I disclose that I have been paid by my employer for my contributions to this article. GregorHofer (talk) 14:51, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Declaring a conflict of interest: I am the CEO and co-founder of Speech Graphics. Paid/COI disclosure is on my user page and on this draft's talk page. I am submitting through AfC rather than publishing directly.
Strongest independent, secondary sourcing for notability:
    * Metzger et al., Nature (2023) — the company's facial-animation technology, and its CTO, were part of the study.
    * Mashable (2023) — mainstream coverage naming the company and its role in the study.
    * GamesIndustry.biz (2024) — feature discussing the company and its Rapport platform.
*GamesBeat (2022) - coverage of company fund raise and new product
    * Alphr (2020) and DigitalNation.scot (2026) — profiles of the company.
Funding and acquisition coverage (Silicon Canals, FinSMEs, Built In Edinburgh) supports specific factual claims rather than notability. GregorHofer (talk) 14:51, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

Speech Graphics is a Scottish technology company that creates facial animation software, generating lip sync and emotional expressions from audio alone. Its technology is used in various applications, including AAA game development, VR avatars, and AI assistants. [1][2]

History

Speech Graphics was founded in 2010 as a spin-out from the University of Edinburgh, by Michael Berger and Gregor Hofer to commercialise their audio-driven facial animation technology [1][2]

The company started out as a consulting business while developing the technology further. Games such as Shadow of Mordor made use of Speech Graphics services.[3] In 2016 Speech Graphics transitioned into making products when Gears of War 4 made use of SGX during development.[4]

It raised a first VC round in 2018 and a Series A round by Sands Capital 2022 to launch its enterprise cloud platform Rapport. [1][5]

In 2023 the technology was used by researchers at UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley in a Nature-published brain–computer interface study enabling a person with severe paralysis to communicate via a digital avatar. [6][2][7]

FaceFX became part of the Speech Graphics product line up in 2025 when the company acquired the assets of OC3 Entertainment.[8]

Technology and products

Speech Graphics technology analyses speech and generates the matching lip sync and emotional expressions automatically. [2] The company offers the following products:

  • SGX is a suite of tools for producing facial animation from audio files. It includes batch processing as well as editing capabilities, character configuration editing, and multiple integrations. [9]
  • SG Com provides access to Speech Graphics' real-time audio-driven facial animation technology, enabling developers to build interactive applications with avatars driven by voice. [9]
  • Rapport is a platform for real-time interactive avatars that combines large language models with audio-driven facial animation, used for training, sales roleplay and customer engagement. [2]
  • FaceFX toolset was acquired with OC3 Entertainment in 2025 [8]

Speech Graphics technology was used in various video games including Shadow of Mordor, The Last of Us Part II, Hogwarts Legacy and Monster Hunter Wilds. [8][4]

Awards

Speech Graphics won several awards including the TIGA Games Industry Awards for best Animation Supplier in 2015 as well as the TIGA award for Technical Innovation in 2022 and in 2023. [10][11][12] In addition Speech Graphics won the Develop Industry Excellence Award 2015 in Creative Outsourcing for Shadow of Mordor. [3]
