SaniSure is an American manufacturer of single-use bioprocessing systems and components, headquartered in Camarillo, California. The company traces its origins to Sani-Tech West, Inc., founded in 1991, and took its current name after a 2020 acquisition by 3i Group's CTS Bioprocessing platform.[1] SaniSure has since expanded through a series of acquisitions, including GL Engineering and Medical Elastomer Development in 2022.[2][3]
History
Founding as Sani-Tech West
SaniSure's predecessor, Sani-Tech West, Inc., was founded in 1991 by Richard Shor in Camarillo, California.[1] Sani-Tech West grew into a manufacturer, distributor, and integrator of single-use bioprocessing systems and components — including customized bottle assemblies, aseptic transfer systems, caps, flasks, tubes, and clamps — for biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life-sciences customers.[1] The company operated under the subsidiary brands SaniSure, its manufacturing arm, and SureTech, which handled injection molding.[1]
Acquisition by 3i Group and renaming (2020)
In August 2020, Sani-Tech West was acquired by CTS Bioprocessing, a single-use bioprocessing platform owned by the British private equity firm 3i Group plc. The deal closed at the end of July 2020; financial terms were not disclosed.[1] As part of the acquisition, 3i renamed its CTS Bioprocessing platform "SaniSure," citing the brand's existing recognition in the medical-device and bioprocessing industry.[1] Richard Shor remained with the company after the sale.[1]
Acquisition of GL Engineering (2022)
In January 2022, SaniSure acquired GL Engineering (GLE), a filling-needle design and manufacturing company based in East Hanover, New Jersey, expanding its drug-product fill-and-finish capabilities. Financial terms were not disclosed.[2] SaniSure chief executive Thomas J. Hook said the acquisition added "an important expansion to SaniSure's customer-focused solutions for drug-product filling."[2]
Acquisition of Medical Elastomer Development (2022)
In December 2022, SaniSure acquired Medical Elastomer Development, Inc. (MED), a silicone extrusion facility in Twinsburg, Ohio, from Q Holding, another 3i Group portfolio company.[3][4] The facility serves customers in the medical-device and bioprocessing markets. SaniSure chief executive Steven Chevillotte said silicone extrusion capabilities were "core to our portfolio of fluid management products and solutions."[4]
Products and operations
SaniSure manufactures single-use bioprocessing components, including bottle and carboy assemblies, aseptic transfer systems, caps, tubing, and clamps, with manufacturing and assembly operations in North America and Europe.[4] The company's product range also includes sterile filling assemblies and precision filling needles for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing, an offering it expanded through its 2022 acquisition of GL Engineering.[2][5]
In April 2026, SaniSure introduced PETG PharmaTainer, a line of bioprocessing bottles and carboys made with medical-grade Eastman Eastar PETG 6763 resin, extending its existing PharmaTainer line of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polycarbonate (PC) containers.[6] Chevillotte said the new line was designed to build cleanliness standards directly into the manufacturing process rather than through post-processing steps.[6]
