PickMyWork is an Indian gig economy platform headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana, that connects gig workers with banks, fintech companies, and consumer internet businesses for sales distribution, merchant onboarding, and customer acquisition tasks on a pay-per-task basis.[1] The platform was founded in 2019 by Kajal Malik and Vidyarthi Baddireddy, both alumni of the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi.[2] As of 2023, the platform had over 800,000 registered gig workers across more than 20 states in India.[3]
History
PickMyWork was incorporated on 25 June 2017 by Kajal Malik and Vidyarthi Baddireddy, though the platform's business model and growth began in 2019.[2] The founders, who met while working on their college's placement team during their MBA at the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, initially built software to help manage student placements before pivoting to a broader gig work distribution model.[2]
By 2023, PickMyWork had expanded to more than 120 cities in India and worked with over 50 client companies, helping acquire more than 700,000 end customers through its network of gig workers.[4]
Business model
PickMyWork operates on a pay-per-task model, connecting digital companies seeking to expand their customer base at a low customer acquisition cost with gig workers seeking flexible earning opportunities.[3] Partners on the platform earn through tasks such as opening bank accounts, selling credit cards, and facilitating insurance sign-ups, without the platform charging a commission on earnings.[4]
During the 2023 festival season, PickMyWork reported a 48% surge in gig worker earnings on its platform.[5]
Funding
In September 2022, PickMyWork raised $1 million in a seed round led by SOSV's Orbit Startups, with participation from Soonicorn Ventures, Upaya Social Ventures, Blume Founders Fund, Venture Catalysts, Mumbai Angels, and WeFounderCircle.[2] The company had previously received a grant from the Emergent Ventures programme at the Mercatus Center, George Mason University.[3]
