Μονάδες Ειδικών Αποστολών

Οι Μονάδες Ειδικών Αποστολών (ΜΕΑ) ήταν ένα ειδικό επίλεκτο σώμα της Αστυνομίας Πόλεων και, μετά την συγχώνευση Χωροφυλακής και Αστυνομίας Πόλεων, της νέας ενοποιημένης Ελληνικής Αστυνομίας. Δημιουργήθηκαν το 1978 και καταργήθηκαν το 1991. Οι άνδρες τους ήταν γνωστοί ως 'ΜΕΑτζήδες και αρκετές φορές εμφανίζονταν με πολιτική περιβολή ή με μαύρες κουκούλες.[1]

Ιστορικό

Δημιουργήθηκαν το 1978, αρχικά ως μικρή Διμοιρία Ειδικών Αποστολών της Αστυνομίας Πόλεων, με διοικητή τον τότε αστυνόμο Α΄ Μιχάλη Γεωργακάκη (δημοκρατικός αξιωματικός διωγμένος από την χούντα). Μετά την άνοδο του ΠΑΣΟΚ στην εξουσία το 1981, οργανώθηκαν οι Μονάδες Ειδικών Αποστολών (ΜΕΑ), πάλι με διοικητή τον Γεωργακάκη.

Η κυβέρνηση του Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου στελέχωσε τα ΜΕΑ με έμπιστους αστυνομικούς, οι οποίοι εκπαιδεύονταν στρατιωτικά στο Κέντρο Εκπαίδευσης Ειδικών Δυνάμεων στο Μεγάλο Πεύκο, και χρησιμοποίησε τις μονάδες αυτές ως πολιτικά αξιόπιστη «πραιτωριανή φρουρά» και δύναμη άμεσης επέμβασης, αλλά και «ως αιχμή του δόρατος της πολιτικής καταστολής. Ντυμένοι με πολιτικά, οι άνδρες τους μπορούσαν να διαλύουν στα μουλωχτά ανεπιθύμητες συγκεντρώσεις (όπως του κινήματος για το στρατό), χωρίς να εκτίθεται δημόσια η πολιτική ηγεσία της "Αλλαγής"».[2]

Τον Απρίλιο του 1983 οι άνδρες των ΜΕΑ αντιμετώπισαν με επιτυχία αεροπειρατεία στο αεροδρόμιο του Ελληνικού.[3] Τον Δεκέμβριο του 1984 τα ΜΕΑ κατέλαβαν τα Εξάρχεια σε επεισόδια με αναρχικούς, οι οποίοι διαμαρτύρονταν για την επίσκεψη στην Αθήνα του ακροδεξιού Γάλλου πολιτικού Ζαν-Μαρί Λε Πεν,[4] ενώ τον Δεκέμβριο του 1987, κουκουλοφόροι άνδρες των ΜΕΑ ηγήθηκαν της επιχείρησης για την κατεδάφιση του παράνομου αντικυβερνητικού ραδιοφωνικού σταθμού FM 100 στην Θεσσαλονίκη και ξυλοκόπησαν τον τότε δήμαρχο Θεσσαλονίκης Σωτήρη Κούβελα.[1]

Τα ΜΕΑ καταργήθηκαν επί κυβέρνησης του Κωνσταντίνου Μητσοτάκη.
