Ο Μαυροβορός ή και Μαυροβρός είναι μικρός οικισμός και ανήκει στην Τοπική Κοινότητα Αγίας Σοφίας του Δήμου Θέρμου στο Νομό Αιτωλοακαρνανίας, σύμφωνα με τη διοικητική διαίρεση του Προγράμματος Καλλικράτης που ισχύει στην Ελλάδα από την 1/1/2011[2]. Αναγνωρίστηκε ως οικισμός στις 16/10/1940 και έκτοτε αποτελεί τμήμα της Κοινότητας Αγίας Σοφίας σε όλες τις διοικητικές μεταβολές[2][3].

Απέχει οδικώς 28 χλμ. από το Αγρίνιο, 47 χλμ. από την Ναύπακτο, 58 χλμ. από το Μεσολόγγι, 65 χλμ. από την Πάτρα, 72 χλμ. από το Καρπενήσι, και 260 χλμ. από την Αθήνα[4].
