Η Βυζαντινή Κωνσταντινούπολη, Το Κοσμίδιο πάνω αριστερά στον χάρτη

Το Κοσμίδιο, ήταν περιοχή[1] και συνοικία - πολυτελές προάστειο[2] της Βυζαντινής Κωνσταντινούπολης εκτός κι εκτός των τειχών στα βόρεια της πόλης ανάμεσα στην πεδιάδα του Φιλοπάτιου και τον Κεράτιο κόλπο. Στο Κοσμίδιον στρατοπέδευσαν όλοι οι πολιορκήσαντες την Κωνσταντινούπολη Άραβες, Βούλγαροι και οι σταυροφόροι. Το όνομα του προερχόταν από την μονή του Αγίου Κοσμά και Αγίου Δαμιανού που είχε χτιστεί εκεί[3]. Το Κοσμίδιο ήταν περιοχή με χαμηλά υψώματα, τα σημερινά Εγιούπ και την πεδιάδα γύρω από αυτά[4].

Στο Κοσμίδιο έγινε η Μάχη του Κοσμιδίου στις 15 Ιουνίου 1410 ανάμεσα στους Σουλεϊμάν Τσελεμπή και Μουσά Τσελεμπή. Στους λόφους του Κοσμιδίου βρισκόταν η Παναγία των Βλαχερνών και η συνοικία Βλαχέρνες. Μετά την οθωμανική κατάκτηση η περιοχή έγινε γνωστή ως Εγιούπ.[5]
