Έρουλοι

Οι Έρουλοι ήταν γερμανικό φύλο της αρχαιότητας που προερχόταν πιθανώς από τη Σκανδιναβία. Τον 3ο αιώνα μ.Χ. , φεύγοντας από την περιοχή τους, εισέβαλαν στη ρωμαϊκή αυτοκρατορία. Απωθώντας τους Οστρογότθους, επέδραμαν μεταξύ άλλων πόλεων στην Αθήνα (267) πυρπολώντας τα μνημεία της, από τα οποία λιγοστά σώθηκαν, ανάμεσά τους ο ναός του Ηφαίστου (Θησείο), το Ρολόι του Ανδρόνικου Κυρρήστου (Αέρηδες), το Πάνθεον κ.α.[1]. Οι Έρουλοι δεν εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Αθήνα.[2] Η επιδρομή τους στην πόλη καταγράφηκε από τον Αθηναίο ιστορικό Πόπλιο Ερέννιο Δέξιππο.

Το βασίλειο των Ερούλων, που βρισκόταν στη περιοχή του ποταμού Έλβα, διαλύθηκε κατά τον 6o αιώνα, όταν τους διέλυσαν οι Λομβαρδοί, προγενέστεροι σύμμαχοί τους μεταξύ του 494 και 508[3].
