State of Confusion ist das zwanzigste Studioalbum der britischen Rockgruppe The Kinks. Es wurde aufgenommen in der Zeit von September 1982 bis März 1983 und am 24. Mai 1983 in England veröffentlicht. Die Single Come Dancing erreichte Platz 6 der Billboard Hot 100 und war einer der erfolgreichsten Hits der Band in den USA. Sie erreichte den Höchststand von 1965 mit Tired of Waiting for You. Das Album selbst war ein großer Erfolg und erreichte Platz 12 der Billboard-Albumcharts. Im August 1983 wurde das Album in Kanada mit Gold ausgezeichnet.[1] Es war das letzte Kinks-Album, auf dem Schlagzeuger Mick Avory als vollwertiges Bandmitglied auftrat.[2] Alle darauf enthaltenen Kompositionen stammen von Ray Davies.

Die Kassettenversionen des Albums enthielten am Ende beider Seiten zwei zusätzliche Titel: Long Distance und Noise. Ersteres wurde in Deutschland auch als eine der beiden B-Seiten der Single Do It Again veröffentlicht (die andere war Guilty), während letzteres die B-Seite der Single Come Dancing war. State of Confusion wurde 1999 auf CD neu aufgelegt. Es enthielt eine kürzere Version von Bernadette als die ursprüngliche LP-Veröffentlichung und vier Bonustracks, von denen zwei bisher unveröffentlicht waren: Don’t Forget to Dance (Original Extended Edit) und Once a Thief.[3]
