Die Serra Gaúcha ist eine gebirgige Region im Nordosten des brasilianischen Bundesstaats Rio Grande do Sul. Sie gilt als Mittelgebirge.

Hier ließen sich viele deutsche und italienische Einwanderer nieder. In den Städten dieser Region spiegelt sich der deutsche und italienische Einfluss zum Beispiel in der Architektur und der Gastronomie wider.

Die ersten Deutschen kamen 1824, Italiener 1875. Während sich die Deutschen in den niederen Gebieten niederließen, bevölkerten die Italiener die Hochländer.

Die Siedlungsgebiete der Deutschen vermitteln den Eindruck, man sei in einem typischen deutschen Dorf. Manche Bewohner sprechen auch heute noch Deutsch bzw. ihren Dialekt Riograndenser Hunsrückisch.

Die Italiener brachten aus ihrer Heimat den Weinanbau mit, welcher noch heute gepflegt wird.[1] Die Stadt Caxias do Sul feiert dieses Erbe mit der Festa da Uva.
