Die Mestaruussarja 1956 war die 26. Spielzeit der finnische Fußballmeisterschaft seit deren Einführung im Jahre 1930. Sie wurde unter zehn Mannschaften vom 5. Mai bis 10. Oktober ausgespielt.

Meister wurde Kuopion PS. Die letzten zwei Vereine stiegen ab.

Im Finale des finnischen Fußballpokals standen sich zwei Mannschaften gegenüber, die 1956 nicht in der ersten Liga spielten. Helsingin Pallo-Pojat schlug vor rund 2.000 Zuschauer im Olympiastadion von Helsinki Tampereen Kisatoverit mit 2:1.
