Maurice Bernard Line (* 21. Juni 1928 in Bedford; † 21. September 2010) war ein britischer Bibliothekar und Bibliothekswissenschaftler.^[1]

Nach dem Besuch der Bedford School studierte Maurice B. Line Klassische Philologie und Anglistik an der University of Oxford (Exeter College). Nach dem Abschluss seines Studiums absolvierte er ab 1950 eine Ausbildung zum Bibliothekar an der Bodleian Library in Oxford. Weitere bibliothekarische Tätigkeiten übernahm er an Bibliotheken in Glasgow, Southampton und Newcastle upon Tyne. Von 1968 bis 1971 leitete er die Bibliothek der University of Bath. Im Jahre 1971 begann seine Tätigkeit an der National Central Library (England and Wales) in London, die 1973 in die British Library eingegliedert wurde. 1974 wurde Maurice B. Line Direktor der British Library Lending Division at Boston Spa. Dieses Amt hatte er bis 1985 inne. Bis zu seinem Eintritt in den Ruhestand 1978 leitete er den Bereich General, Science Technology and Industry der British Library, deren Leitungsgremium er von 1974 bis 1988 angehörte. 1989 begründete er die Fachzeitschrift Alexandria und war bis 2002 ihr Herausgeber.

Line arbeitete über Großbritannien hinaus vor allem in der International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) und in anderen Fachgremien. Während seines Ruhestands betätigte er sich weltweit als Fachberater in bibliothekarischen Fragen. Außerdem lehrte (im Nebenamt) er als außerordentlicher Professor für Bibliothekswissenschaft an der University of Sheffield und der Loughborough University. Ehrendoktorwürden verliehen ihm die Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh und die University of Southampton. In seinen Veröffentlichungen beschäftigte sich Maurice B. Line vor allem mit dem auswärtigen und internationalen Leihverkehr der Bibliotheken.
