Der Lamborghini Terzo Millennio (italienisch für Drittes Jahrtausend)[1][2] ist ein elektrisches Konzeptfahrzeug, das vom italienischen Automobilhersteller Lamborghini in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) entwickelt wurde. Es ist das erste Produkt einer dreijährigen Partnerschaft zwischen den beiden Institutionen im Wert von 100.000.000 Pfund Sterling.[3][4] Der Terzo Millennio wurde im November 2017 auf der EmTech-Konferenz in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, vorgestellt.[4]

Das Design des Terzo Millennio gilt als Teil der „Gandini-Linie“ und ist das Werk von Lamborghini-Chefdesigner Mitja Borkert und der Centro-Stile-Abteilung des Unternehmens.[5] Die Fahrzeugtechnologie wurde von Ingenieuren von Lamborghini sowie von Professoren und Studenten zweier Laboratorien des MIT entwickelt.[1][6]

Elektromotor

Beim Terzo Millennio sollen Superkondensatoren mit hoher Kapazität zum Einsatz kommen. Diese wurden entwickelt, um gleichzeitig Energie zu speichern und freizusetzen, ohne auf chemische Reaktionen angewiesen zu sein.[1][4] Jedes Rad, dessen Felgen im Bereich des Acrylglases orange leuchten, soll einen Elektromotor beinhalten, wodurch das Drehmoment individuell gesteuert werden kann.

Das Energiespeichersystem ist eng mit der Leistung verbunden. Es werden die Vorteile der Elektromotoren genutzt: hohes Drehmoment, und die Möglichkeit von Energiebewegung. Die Verlagerung der Elektromotoren in die Räder hatte einen weiteren positiven Effekt: Die absolute Freiheit für Designer und Aerodynamiker.[7]

Autonome Funktionen

Der Terzo Millennio soll über ein autonomes Fahr-System verfügen. Außerdem soll er (laut Lamborghini) in der Lage sein, seinen eigenen Zustand zu überwachen, um durch Unfälle verursachte Risse und Schäden an seiner Struktur festzustellen. In diesem Fall würde ein Selbstreparaturvorgang über Mikro-Kanäle ausgelöst, welche mit Chemikalien für die Reparatur gefüllt sind, diese vermindern das Risiko kleiner Risse, die sich in der Carbonfaser-Struktur ausbreiten könnten.[7]
