Kent Broadhurst

James Kent Broadhurst (* 4. Februar 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri; † 20. Mai 2026 in New York City, New York) war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, Maler und Autor.[1][2][3][4][5]

Leben

Broadhurst wurde 1940 in St. Louis im US-Bundesstaat Missouri geboren. Nach seiner Schulzeit besuchte er die University of Nebraska in Lincoln, die er im Jahr 1962 abschloss.[6][7] Broadhurst begann seine Karriere auf der Bühne und gehörte dem Ensemble des Actors Theatre of Louisville an, wo er von 1979 bis 1986 regelmäßig Auftritte hatte und erneut im Jahr 1999. Auch seine eigenen Stücke They’re Coming To Make It Brighter, (In the) Eye of the Beholder, The Habitual Acceptance of the Near Enough, Gala, Bound und Lemons kamen dort, oft während des Humana Festivals. Er spielte auch auf internationalen Tourneen, unter anderem in Budapest, Ungarn, und in Belgrad im ehemaligen Jugoslawien. Er war auch bei der Next Theatre Company in Chicago in Illinois zu sehen.[6]

Neben Regionaltheaterproduktionen spielte er in New York City sowohl am Off-Broadway als auch am Broadway: so 1983 in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial und 1997 in A Doll’s House.[8][9][10][11]

Erste Auftritte vor der Kamera hatte er 1980 im Film Brubaker an der Seite von Robert Redford als Whitley und im Fernsehfilm The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg. Es folgten Auftritte in weiteren Filmen wie The Verdict – Die Wahrheit und nichts als die Wahrheit mit Paul Newman, Silkwood mit Meryl Streep und Léon – Der Profi. Er war auch in Mini- und Fernsehserien zu sehen, darunter Babylon 5, Law & Order und Feuersturm und Asche. Daneben spielte er in zwei Stephen-King-Filmadaptationen: in Werwolf von Tarker Mills und in Stephen Kings Stark. Einen letzten Auftritt vor der Kamera hatte er im Jahr 2011 in einer Folge der Fernsehserie Person of Interest als Heinrich Hauffe. Im deutschen Sprachraum wurde Broadhurst unter anderem von Arnim André, Ulrich Frank, Helmut Gauß, Norbert Gescher, Frank Glaubrecht, Klaus Jepsen, Uwe Karpa, Harald Pages, Lutz Riedel, Karl Schulz, Ulf J. Söhmisch, Ortwin Speer und Bernd Stephan synchronisiert.[12][13]

Für den Fernsehfilm Wild Iris aus dem Jahr 2001 schrieb er das Drehbuch, für den Laura Linney einen Emmy gewann.[1] Als Sprecher übernahm Broadhurst im Jahr 2000 die Bühnenerzählung in der Rolle des Hypnotherapeuten bei der Aufführung des Progressive-Metal-Albums Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory der Band Dream Theater in New York City. Die Aufführung ist auf der DVD Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York der Band dokumentiert.[1][14]

Neben seiner Arbeit vor und hinter der Kamera war Broadhurst auch als Maler tätig, der über 2000 Werke schuf. Er war zudem Mitglied der Dramatists Guild of America. Er starb im Alter von 86 Jahren im Calvary Hospital in der Bronx.[1][6][7]
