Jan Kasprowicz (* 12. Dezember 1860 in Szymborze bei Inowrazlaw, Königreich Preußen; † 1. August 1926 in Poronin bei Zakopane) war ein polnischer Schriftsteller, Dichter, literarischer Übersetzer und Hochschullehrer.

Leben

Nach den Gymnasien in Ratibor und am Mariengymnasium in Posen studierte er in Leipzig und Breslau Philologie und Philosophie. Im Jahr 1885 veröffentlichte er seine ersten Gedichte, war als Journalist tätig, promovierte im Jahr 1904 und bekam im Jahr 1908 den Lehrstuhl für vergleichende Literaturgeschichte an der Universität Lemberg, derer Rektor er 1921–1922 wurde.

Kasprowicz gehörte zum Kreis der Dichter des Jungen Polens und schrieb formbetonte, ausdrucksstarke Gedichte. Er übersetzte Werke von Shakespeare, Byron, Goethe, Schiller u. a. ins Polnische.
