Die Bahnstrecke Gifhorn Stadt–Celle, auch Oberallertalbahn genannt, war eine Eisenbahnstrecke mit in Niedersachsen. Sie verlief entlang des Flusses Aller und ist mittlerweile vollständig stillgelegt.

Geschichte

Bahnhof Gifhorn Stadt am 26. September 1981

Die Strecke wurde 1913 eröffnet. Pläne zum Bau einer Bahnverbindung von Magdeburg nach Bremen durch das Allertal hatte es bereits 1866 gegeben.

1939 war ein kurzer Abschnitt der Strecke Drehort für die Außenaufnahmen des Films Kongo-Express: zwischen Langlingen und Offensen wurden auf einer Länge von 200 m links und rechts der Gleise „tropische Pflanzen“ drapiert, die dem Umfeld einen „afrikanischen“ Touch verleihen sollten. Eine Lokomotive fuhr diesen kurzen Streckenabschnitt immer wieder entlang, um die Bahnfahrt, die einen wichtigen Aspekt der Handlung ausmacht, zu simulieren. Der Haltepunkt Offensen wurde zum Urwald-Bahnhof Lukanga umdekoriert.[2]

In der Zeit des Zweiten Weltkriegs bis in die 1950er Jahre bestand ein Anschluss zum Fliegerhorst Wesendorf. Das Gleis mündete beim Bahnhof Wilsche und wurde in den 1970er Jahren abgebaut.[3]

Der Personenverkehr wurde am 27. September 1981 eingestellt. Gleichzeitig endete auch der Güterverkehr zwischen Gamsen-Kästorf und Müden-Dieckhorst. Letzterer war von Gifhorn Stadt bis Gamsen-Kästorf noch bis 1. März 1983 möglich, zwischen Müden-Dieckhorst und Celle endete er zum 22. Mai 1993. Zuletzt wurde dieser Abschnitt als Bahnhofsgleis betrieben. Die Strecke ist mittlerweile zu großen Teilen zurückgebaut.
