Pelates quadrilineatus és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels terapòntids.[2]

Descripció

  • Pot arribar a fer 30 cm de llargària màxima.
  • 12-13 espines i 8-11 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 3 espines i 9-11 radis tous a l'anal.
  • És de color platejat amb 4-6 línies horitzontals fosques, una taca negra darrere del cap i per sota de l'origen de l'aleta dorsal, i una altra a la part davantera de l'aleta dorsal.
  • Aleta caudal pàl·lida o lleugerament fosca.[3][4]

Alimentació

Menja peixets i invertebrats.[3]

Depredadors

A Austràlia és depredat per Sillago analis.[5]

Hàbitat

És un peix marí i d'aigua salabrosa, associat als esculls[6] i de clima subtropical.[3]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba des del mar Roig (des d'on ha colonitzat recentment la mar Mediterrània a través del Canal de Suez)[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] i l'Àfrica oriental[18][19][20][21][22] fins al sud del Japó,[23][24] Nova Guinea, el mar d'Arafura[25] i Vanuatu.[3][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58]

Observacions

És inofensiu per als humans.[3]
