Veliki pas (lat.Canis Major) je sazviježđe na nebu. Prvo otkriće je napravio u 2. vijeku grčki astronom Ptolomej. Najsjajnija zvijezda Sirijus udaljena je od Sunca 8.6 sg i ima prividnu magnitudu od -1.42. Ona je najsjajnija na našem nebu i druga po udaljenosti od nas. Zajedno s Prokionom (Mali pas) i Betelgez (Orion) čini Zimski trougao. [1] [2]

Mitologija [1]

Zeus je imao psa Lelapa koji je bio najbrži. Poklonio ga je zajedno s kopljem (koje ne može promašiti) Evropi. Evropu je nesretnim slučajem u lovu ubio njen muž Kefal, upravo tim kopljem.
