Funkcija
Smoliki proteini su identifikovani u različitim organizmima na osnovu homologije sekvenci sa porodicom Sm-proteina (vidi SNRPD2 ). Proteini slični Sm-u sadrže motiv Sm sekvence, koji se sastoji od dvije regije odvojene poveznicom promjenjive dužine koja se savija kao petlja. Smatra se da proteini slični Sm tvore stabilan heteromer prisutan u tri-snRNP česticama, koji su važni u prepreradi iRNK .[ 6]
