Catalina d'Habsburgu (15 de setiembre de 1533, Innsbruck – 28 de febreru de 1572 (greg.), Linz). Foi Archiduquesa d'Austria, duquesa de Mantua pol so matrimoniu con Franciscu III Gonzaga, Gran Duquesa de Lituania y reina consorte de Polonia al convertise na tercer esposa del rei Segismundo II Augusto Jagellón.

Biografía

Semeya d'infancia de la princesa Catalina

Catalina yera una de los quince fíos del emperador Fernandu I d'Habsburgu y Ana Jagellón d'Hungría y Bohemia.

El 17 de marzu de 1543 celebróse l'alcuerdu de matrimoniu ente Catalina y el duque de Mantua, Franciscu III Gonzaga.[5]

La ceremonia de la boda llevar a cabu'l 22 d'ochobre de 1549, pero'l príncipe de Mantua morrió trágicamente cuatro meses dempués de la boda. Dempués de la muerte del so home la vilba de diecisiete años tornó a Innsbruck.

En 1552 los Habsburgu propunxeren el matrimoniu de Catalina col so ex cuñáu, el rei polacu Segismundo II Augusto Jagellón.

Catalina, culpando al rei de la muerte de la so hermana mayor, y la so primer esposa, Sabela, nun quería esti matrimoniu. Tamién, Segismundo, acorviáu pol dolor tres la muerte de la so esposa Bárbara Radziwiłł y la renuencia a los Habsburgu, miró de mala gana esti matrimoniu.[6]

Finalmente, dempués d'otorga-yos la dispensación el 20 de mayu de 1553, celebrar en Viena el 23 de xunu de 1553, l'alcuerdu de matrimoniu, convirtiéndose'l 29 de xunetu de 1553, na tercer esposa del rei Segismundo II Augusto de Polonia y Lituania, que yera'l so primu per parte de padres. Foi coronada reina a otru día na catedral de Wawel.

N'abril de 1554 Catalina anunció que ta embarazada, pero tuvo un albuertu n'ochobre de 1554. Probablemente carecía d'epilepsia y en 1558 súpose que nun podría tener fíos, dempués de lo que el rei empezó a pensar que'l so matrimoniu taba malditu, ya intentó anulalo. El descontentu de Segismundo basar nel fechu de que Catalina fuera hermana de la so primer esposa. El 7 d'ochobre de 1566, Catalina foi a Austria y nunca tornó a Polonia. Primeramente, ella vivió en Viena, y más tarde instalóse en Linz, onde morrió'l 28 de febreru de 1572.

Hasta 1576 el cadabre de la reina taba nun castiellu en Linz, antes de ser treslladáu a l'Abadía Sankt Florian. El funeral de la Reina solo llevóse a cabu ente'l 25-27 setiembre de 1614 por iniciativa del emperador Matías d'Habsburgu.
