First off I really appreciate your feedback. I haven't brought this up during the discussion because it obfuscates the real question. Three of the no votes in that discussion are editors who have opposed infoboxes on biographies for over fifteen years. They show "strong pushback" on pretty much any question in regards to this topic. I stumbled into this topic a year or so ago and in that time there's been 10+ RFCs on articles to add infoboxes. Most of these discussions have ended inclusion, but almost all of them featured strong pushback from the same group of editors who are opposed to them. Last year I attempted to modifyMOS:INFOBOX to help stop the battleground, but again... it was steadfastly opposed by the same group.
I'll support your RFC, but it's going to get same pushback, from the same editors, that everything related to this topic receives. So prepare yourself. Thank you for notifying me of this. I was not aware of that RfC and was interested to see how it evolved. I expect that there will be dissenters, but the RfC I will open only applies to already existing infoboxes, not on whether their merit. Though, it very well could turn into that debate, so thank you for letting me know. Reviewing your post at VP, it might be a good idea to find another example instead of Gioachino Rossini since that article doesn't have an infobox. It might confuse editors. I was curious if you're ready to revisit VP about the topic of links inside of infoboxes. Modifying policy would probably be helpful in that area. When you brought it up last time another editor started a separate discussion about infoboxes that kind of derailed things. That RFC is now closed. @Nemov, Back now- I think the idea of returning to VP is good, but no one really seemed to care last time (or it just wasn't advertised properly). Thank you today for Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption, "about a church meant to criticize Televangelists and to draw attention to how easy it is to start a church in the US. Since I think most editors will need some context—basically, a church is a physical (or digital) place consisting of organised events containing prayer that provides a cohesive and often creative expression of beliefs, community, stories or morals." - There is a discussion on Peter Grimes, 3 options. It is intriguing to see the very personal discussions people get into over extremely specific details that the average reader would not even consider. Exactly because I like thoroughness I'd go for Zürich, which, as was said for Zurich, nobody would misunderstand. The change by a brave editor could just have been accepted. I agree - I tried Der Traumgörge with the baritone, which was the rejected (they wanted a third Figaro within a few weeks, and insisted on that title in English, and I said better no), and then with the soprano. While I'm not sure, I believe it's a nice satire, lightning the mood. Made me smile. I have been on both sides of the discussion (s. Samuel Barber), understanding soon that an infobox makes access easier for some readers , and doesn't hurt others, so why not. It is great to see Liszt up there- @Ligaturama put in immense work into creating an excellent composer bio! For Schumann: while I would personally appreciate the signature and list of compositions, I accept that TR does not personally agree wwth including those parameters- if anything, I'm happy he even kept the box in the first place. I discussed this with Iadmc and won't repeat. Hi, MyCatIsAChonk! Hope you are doing well! I recently opened a new FLC, this time for List of SB19 live performances, and I was wondering if you have any spare time to have take a look? Thank you for the offer to review my FAC! While you wait (I just pinged Airship with a progress report), would you perhaps be willing to look at BWV 101, if not for GA review then just for polishing, because it will be on OTD on 13 August? I'll look at the cantata for tomorrow ;) - As for infoboxes, I think the day following Stravinsky's TFA day would be good to start, referring to how well the feature is accepted, and perhaps a first step would be just to discuss the link to a composer's (or writer's or actor's) work as good and helpful, not ... well you'll remember the terms, Vivaldi, Rossini (as if there was an infobox it had already to be mentioned - really?), and many others. It's nothing my brain can grasp: why disconnect a creator from their creations?? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:57, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240810105700","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20240810105700-August_music","replies":[]}}-->

Theology, and how far do go to explain theology in a cantata article, especially if that bit is irrelevant to the cantata, because it is not primarily based on the scripture readings but the chorale? This nutshell is given by the source (same Dürr), and perhaps you get a clue if you click on the link to the actual reading. --GA
introduced now as the author of the Bible on Bach's cantatas - I'll read again if he should have been introduced earlier. --GA
In the movement 2 row, the strings column says '(or Vl)' - why?
as the text explains, Bach had a good flute player at hand for the first performance, but for a later one he assigned the part to violin --GA
"Perhaps therefore, Bach used it in different ways in almost all movements" - why perhaps? "Therefore" and "perhaps" are similar ideas to start sentences with but I'm not sure what they're saying here
I can't just say "therefore" because we can't be sure - how can that be modified in English? There are chorale cantatas where the tune appears only in the first and last movement, - this one is unusual. --GA
"are persistent three-not "sighing" motifs" - could just be me, but what does "three-not" mean?
typo, sorry about the confusion --GA
"The music is in siciliano rhythm" - there is no wikipedia page for "siciliano rhythm" and I'm not sure what that term means, which means that the average reader wouldn't understand it either
there is an article, and I meant to link, but then forgot --GA
I didn't look at sourcing, since I can't do a full GA review right now, but I hope my CE and these comments can help. Sorry about the delay- best of luck! Third round: comments regarding the CE, which is great for catching things, but I have a few questions.
overlinking - in classical music, when a piece has an article, we don't link the author, especially for well-known people who are known by last name alone, example: Mozart's Requiem, not Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem. Similarly: Luther's "Vater unser im Himmelreich". Similarly: if we just linked to a specific movement within the St Matthew Passion, why link to the Passion right afterwards?
I don't think the duration is lead material, - I'll move it to the infobox. Compare BWV 1. Duration of these cantatas is around 20 minutes, no surprise here ;)
I put the Gardiner ref behind the plague (speaking of the chorale), but not about the Latin source, because if my memory serves me Gardiner doesn't mention that. Actually the order of things was: there was the unreferenced sentence (which I probably wrote myself, 13 years ago), I first found the Gardiner ref, and then Hiemke. I could remove Gardiner now, but am uneasy listing him after a fact that he not supported.
the item about the retained unchanged text has in your version "unchanged" twice and "librettist" twice, - can you please repair that? As it stands, I don't think it's an improvement. See above (melody): there are chorale cantatas where the text is retained only for the first and last movements, - this is unusual.
I'll check for citation. That the instruments go with the voices is so normal that it may be difficult - Bach wrote four parts, the instruments are there, - they are not silent but play with the voices. The same in Bach's motets. The 19th century thought that they were sung without instruments. Wrong. For one of them Bach even prescribed that winds go with one choir and strings with the other. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:36, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240812203600","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20240812203600-MyCatIsAChonk-20240812185200","replies":["c-MyCatIsAChonk-20240813130300-Gerda_Arendt-20240812203600"]}}-->
Good points on all- adjust anything in the ce as you see fit. The only one I disagree with is the ref in the middle of the sentence- having all refs after the punctuation looks much cleaner (imo) but do what you think is best for clear referencing. Amused by the lovely cat- gotta love a sleepy kitty! Thank you, will delink the "duplicates" and remove Gardiner from in the middle of the sentence. It's the first time I heard that named less clean ;) - On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. That ensemble was amazing! The keyboard player, who switched from organ to harpsichord by turning 90°, put a facsimile of Bach's handwriting on his music stand for the concert and played practically everything from memory. At the reception afterwards they confessed that they were always sceptical when lay choirs do the B minor, but we won their approval ;) - Our conductor had not felt ready but a couple of singers (soprano and bass) said they wouldn't want to wait ten more years (for the groups 50th anniversary) because they might not live that long, and wanted to do it once in life. "The Rite of Spring, The Firebird, Petrushka, L'Histoire du soldat, Threni... all iconic works by Igor Stravinsky, one of the most important composers of the 20th century. His approach to rhythm in The Rite revolutionized modernist music, influencing composers like Aaron Copland. Hello! Recently, there has been a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Featured lists#FLs for television seasons regarding how season articles should be classified, as they are currently split between FL and GA/FA. It seems the general consensus nowadays is that these pages should be considered as articles instead of lists. Given that, I've been working to identify pages that would make solid GAs; in my opinion, Last Week Tonight seasons 1, 2, and 3 would be a good fit in their current state, as they have solid prose sections and, as relatively new FLs, are of good quality all around.
As the original FLC nominator, I wanted to know if you would be interested in nominating this list for GAN (and, if you wanted, to aim for FAC down the line). I'd be happy to chip in where needed and I'm open to any feedback you have on this topic – just let me know what you think about it. RunningTiger123 (talk) 21:06, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20241020210600","author":"RunningTiger123","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-RunningTiger123-20241020210600-Moving_Last_Week_Tonight_seasons_from_FL_to_GA\/FA","replies":["c-MyCatIsAChonk-20241022001600-RunningTiger123-20241020210600"]}}-->
@RunningTiger123 Thanks for letting me know, I didn't know of this change. I'll be sure to nominate them for GA, once FL status is removed (I'm not sure how that process works, so I'll leave that to you all). Thank you! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 00:16, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20241022001600","author":"MyCatIsAChonk","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-MyCatIsAChonk-20241022001600-RunningTiger123-20241020210600","replies":["c-RunningTiger123-20241022013000-MyCatIsAChonk-20241022001600"]}}-->
Cool! Personally, I don't see any need to go through featured list removal – if it gets promoted to GA, that should just overwrite the FL status (maybe a FLRC would be opened to formally note it, but I somewhat doubt that). And also there's no big rush; the goal is to make article classification more consistent but it's not a particularly time-sensitive goal. The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!
The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!
All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.
Generalissima (submissions) wins the featured article prize for 3 FAs in round 4, and 7 FAs overall.
Muboshgu (submissions) wins the ITN prize, for 15 In the news articles in round 1, and 36 overall.
Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!
