John Cox Cox-Edwards[1] (1839–1926) was a Church of England priest and chaplain in the Royal Navy who rose to be Chaplain of the Fleet[2] from 1888[3] to 1899.[4]
Harbord was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge[5] He was ordained deacon in 1863; and priest in 1864. After curacies in Hinckley,[6] Colmworth[7] and Bolnhurst[8] he was with the Royal Navy from 1871[9] to 1899.[10] He served in China, Ireland,[11] Australia[12] and Egypt[13] before coming back to England as Head of the Royal Navy Chaplaincy Service and inspector of Naval Schools.[14] He was an Honorary Chaplain to the Queen[15] from 1896[16] until[17] 1901. He was then Rector[18] of Ecton[19] from 1900[20] to 1908.[21]
In retirement he lived in Southsea[22] and died there on 25 March 1926.[23]
