Cabinet of Ontario, 1942–1943
The Conant Ministry was the combined cabinet (formally the Executive Council of Ontario ) that governed Ontario from October 21, 1942, to May 18, 1943. It was led by the 12th Premier of Ontario , Harry Nixon . The ministry was made up of members of the Liberal Party of Ontario , which commanded a majority of the seats in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario .
The ministry replaced the Hepburn ministry following the resignation of Premier Mitch Hepburn , who nevertheless remained in cabinet as Treasurer , appointing Conant as his hand-picked successor. The Conant ministry governed through a middle part of the 20th Parliament of Ontario .
Conant resigned after he lost the 1943 Ontario Liberal Party leadership convention . He was succeeded as Premier of Ontario by his leadership rival Harry Nixon . The Conant ministry and the Kennedy ministry are the only ministries in Ontario history to neither win nor lose an election.
