Generasie X

Generasie X (algemeen afgekort tot Gen X) is die demografiese generasie wat die baby boomers opvolg. Daar is geen presiese datums vir wanneer hierdie groep begin of eindig nie; demograwe en navorsers gebruik tipies die aanvang van die geboortejaar wat wissel van die vroeë tot middel-1960's en eindig by geboortejaar wat wissel van die laat 1970's tot die vroeë 1980's.

Oorsprong van die term

Douglas Coupland het die term "Generasie X" gewild gemaak in sy 1991 boek Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture.

Die term "generasie X" is op verskillende tye dwarsdeur die geskiedenis gebruik om die vervreemde jeug te beskryf. In die 1950's het die Hongaarse fotograaf Robert Capa Generasie X as die titel vir 'n foto-essay oor die jong mans en vroue wat onmiddellik na die Tweede Wêreldoorlog grootgeword het gebruik.[1] In 1976, het die Engelse musikant Billy Idol die bynaam gebruik as die naam vir 'n punk rock-musiekgroep.[2]
