"That's Not How This Works" merupakan sebuah lagu karya penyanyi dan penulis lagu asal AS Charlie Puth yang berkolaborasi dengan penyanyi duo asal Amerika Dan + Shay. Lagu ini dirilis di bawah label Atlantic Records sebagai sebuah singel pada 31 Maret 2023. Lagu ini diproduseri sendiri oleh Charlie Puth dan tambahannya diproduseri oleh Dan Smyers dari duo Dan + Shay, dan mereka berdua menulis lagu ini bersama dengan Jordan Reynolds. Lagu ini pun menjadi lagu kolaborasi (featuring) pertama bagi penyanyi duo Dan + Shay's. Versi duet lagu ini dengan penyanyi Amerika Sabrina Carpenter yang juga turut membintangi video musik resmi lagu ini dirilis pada 14 April 2023.[1]

Di hari perilisan lagu "That's Not How This Works", Charlie Puth menjelaskan proses pembuatan lagu ini melalui akun media sosialnya:

Terverifikasi saya menulis That's Not How This Works melalui zoom dengan @danandshay di bulan April 2020 lalu. Saya sudah melalui banyak perubahan dalam aspek bermusik di kehidupan saya, tetapi saya belum ingin menunjukkan lagu ini ke publik karena saya mengetahui betul betapa spesialnya lagu ini bagi saya. Lagu inilah yang menjadi pendorong bagi saya untuk beranjak ke fase selanjutnya dari hidup ini. Lagu ini merupakan penyembuh bagi saya. Dengan semua perasaan yang belum pernah saya hadapi sebelumnya, akhirnya saya mengeumpulkan tekad dan keberanian untuk membuat lagu ini dengan melodi. Ketika mendengarkan lagu ini, saya harap pendengar dapat merasakan apa yang saya rasakan, yakni sebuah perasaan lega. Terima kasih untuk @sabrinacarpenter atas perannya yang luar biasa dalam menggambarkan karakter ini. Sungguh berbakat! Kini lagu That's Not How This Works sudah dapat didengar di seluruh platform! "That's Not How This Works" merupakan sebuah lagu pop elektro yang lririknya mengisahkan tentang seorang mantan yang masih labil dan membuat bingung karakter utama yang mana Charlie Puth dan anggota duo Dan + Shay menyanyikannya di bagian refrain pada saat yang berbeda: "You can't say you hate me, then call me when you're hurt / Baby, you know that's not how this works, no / That's not how this works / You can't walk away, then come back to what we were / Baby, you know that's not how this works, no / That's not how this works, no".[3]
