Referendum konstitusi Azerbaijan 2016 adalah sebuah referendum yang diselenggarakan di Azerbaijan pada tanggal 26 September 2016. Para pemilih diminta untuk memutuskan apakah mereka menyetujui 29 amendemen konstitusi tersebut, dengan pemungutan suara terpisah.[1] Semua 29 amendemen disetujui antara 89% dan 95% pemilih. Referendum tersebut membuat jabatan Wakil Presiden dan masa jabatan kepresidenan diperpanjang dari 5 tahun ke 7 tahun.[2]

Latar belakang

Presiden Ilham Aliyev mengeluarkan dekret pada tanggal 18 Juli 2016, yang mengubah beberapa pasal dalam konstitusi. Dekret tersebut ditinjau kembali oleh Mahkamah Konstitusi yang kemudian disetujui pada tanggal 25 Juli.[3] Pada tanggal 26 Juli, Aliyev memerintahkan untuk diselenggarakannya referendum, sebagaimana disyaratkan oleh pasal 152 dan Pasal 153 dalam Konstitusi.[1]

Akibat

Setelah diselenggarakannya referendum, Presiden Ilham Aliyev menunjuk istrinya, Mehriban Aliyeva, sebagai Wakil Presiden.[2]
