Pulau Batu Puteh (Portugis: Pedra Branca) adalah pulau tunggul batu yang terletak di titik pertemuan Selat Singapura dengan Laut Tiongkok Selatan. Mercusuar Horsburgh di pulau ini dibangun pada tahun 1851 oleh pemerintah Inggris atas izin Sultan Johor Darul Ta'zim pada ketika itu.[1] Pulau ini telah berada di bawah administrasi Singapura selama lebih dari satu abad hingga Malaysia menerbitkan peta yang menunjukkan Pedra Branca sebagai wilayahnya pada 21 Desember 1979. Singapura menyebut Pedra Branca ("batu putih" dalam bahasa Portugis), dan Malaysia sebagai Pulau Batu Putih (dalam bahasa Melayu) atau ejaan lamanya Pulau Batu Puteh.

Pulau tersebut sempat menjadi wilayah sengketa selama kurang lebih 29 tahun, hingga berakhir setelah Mahkamah Internasional memutuskan pada 23 Mei 2008 bahwa pulau tersebut diserahkan pada Singapura berdasarkan pertimbangan efektivitas.

Menurut masyarakat di selatan semenanjung Malaysia Barat terutama di negeri Johor Darul Ta'zim masih menganggap pulau tunggul batu ini masih merupakan bagian dari kedaulatan mereka.

Baginda Sultan Johor ketika meresmikan pembukaan persidangan Dewan Undangan Negeri Johor pada 19 Jun, 2008 menegaskan bahwa pulau yang bersangkutan bukan milik Singapura melainkan hak milik Kerajaan Johor.[2]

"Suka beta ingatkan bahawa beta tidak lupa pada Pulau Batu Puteh. Pulau Batu Puteh bukan hak Singapura tetapi hak milik Johor. Sampai bila pun beta akan cari ikhtiar untuk mendapatkan semula pulau milik Johor itu," menurut Baginda.
