Perilaku agonistik adalah perilaku sosial yang terkait dengan pertarungan. Istilah ini memiliki artian yang lebih luas daripada perilaku agresif, karena juga mencakup tindakan mengancam, menunjukkan kekuatan, mundur, memuaskan, dan berdamai. Istilah ini dicetuskan oleh Scott dan Fredericson pada tahun 1951.[1] Perilaku agonistik banyak diamati pada hewan-hewan akibat terbatasnya makanan, tempat tinggal, dan pasangan. Kadang-kadang hewan juga melakukan unjuk kekuatan yang membuat mereka terlihat besar dan lebih bugar, dan dengan tindakan tersebut mereka dapat mengakses sumber daya tanpa harus bertarung. Perilaku agonistik dapat bervariasi dari pertarungan sampai mati hingga perilaku ritualistik yang jauh lebih aman, walaupun perilaku ritualistik atau unjuk kekuatan adalah jenis perilaku agonistik yang paling umum ditemui.[2]
