Life Denis Dighton was the son of the caricaturist Robert Dighton and a younger brother was Richard Dighton. Composed in 1915 for a planned circus-style staging of Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream, it marked the composer's first collaboration with author Jean Cocteau.
