Pantai Karangbolong

Pantai Karangbolong adalah salah satu objek wisata pantai yang berada di Desa Karangbolong, Kecamatan Buayan, Kabupaten Kebumen, Jawa Tengah. Pantai ini berkontur landai, berpasir yang cukup luas, yang dibatasi oleh perbukitan batuan sedimen klastik yang berasal dari gunung api. Di pantai inilah terdapat banyak sarang burung lawet yang dikelola pemerintah setempat sebagai pendapatan asli daerah.[1]

Kondisi pantai

Pasir berwarna kelabu yang berukuran halus-kasar bersumber dari batuan tersebut. Sapuan ombak besar yang membentur dinding pebukitan menghasilkan energi yang cukup untuk mengikis, mengangkut dan mengendapkan kembali butiran batuan. Derajat pelapukan yang tinggi di kawasan ini mempercepat proses abrasi tersebut. Pantai Karangbolong mempunyai potensi membentuk arus balik yang kuat, sehingga merupakan kawasan yang berbahaya untuk berenang. Di kawasan pantai ini juga terdapat Gua Karangbolong, yang terletak di sisi timur. Sebuah lorong yang cukup panjang terbentuk pada lapisan breksi lahar yang terkekarkan. Gua Karangbolong berukuran panjang 30 meter, lebar 10 meter dan tinggi sekitar 5 meter. Breksi yang dikenal sebagai formasi gabon ini berumur oligo-miosen atau sekitar 30 sampai 15 juta tahun lalu, tersingkap bersama-sama dengan sisipan batu pasir dan batu lempung.[2]

Pembentukan Gua Karangbolong dipengaruhi oleh peruntuhan yang terjadi di sepanjang batas bidang antara breksi dengan batu pasri atau batu lempung. Lubang peruntuhan akan semakin besar karena lapisan batuan yang menggantung di atap lubang selalu runtuh akibat beratnya. Proses itu juga dipicu oleh kekar-kekar yang ada, yang kehadirannya memperlemah daya ikat antarkomponen batuan. Proses pembentukan gua teramati baik di ujung timur dan selatan Goa Karangbolong, di mana pada skala kecil terjadi peruntuhan batuan di sepanjang batas lapisan yang berbeda. Karena bukan gua batu gamping, maka di dalam Goa Karangbolong tidak dijumpai ornamen.[3]

Perairan di Pantai Karangbolong sangat memanjakan pengunjung yang ingin menyalurkan hobi memancing, karena di kawasan itu ikan-ikan sangat melimpah. Selain Pantai Karangbolong, Kabupaten Kebumen masih memiliki objek wisata pantai lainnya yaitu Pantai Ayah, Pantai Petanahan, Pantai Bocor, dan Pantai Suwuk.[4]
