Palitai (atau Palite, Parittei, Pattei) adalah pisau tradisional suku Mentawai, yang berasal dari Kepulauan Mentawai[1] di lepas pantai Sumatera Barat, Indonesia.

Deskripsi

Palitai memiliki bilah lurus dan bermata dua. Pegangannya panjang, ramping, dan bentuknya melengkung.[2] Palitai adalah pisau dengan bilah yang licin yang diasah di kedua sisinya dan sejajar. Kedua sisi tajamnya menyatu dari pangkal ke ujung di satu titik yang tajam. Pada bagian tengahnya terdapat rusuk yang ditinggikan. Baja yang digunakan untuk membuat bilahnya diimpor dari Sumatra, karena teknik penempaan tidak diketahui di pulau Mentawai. Bilahnya selesai dalam bentuk yang diinginkan di tempat. Panjang total dapat bervariasi dari 30 cm hingga 1 m. Pangkal Palitai tipis dan panjang, bilahnya agak lebar tetapi menjadi lebih tipis dan dengan elegan mengerucut ke ujung yang hampir tajam atau ujung yang dihiasi. Pangkalnya memiliki bagian bulat yang lebih tebal ditengah-tengahnya. Palitai dibawa di sebelah kanan tubuh, di kain pinggang dan mungkin menjadi bagian dari mahar.[3]
