Negara inti

Dalam teori sistem dunia, negara inti adalah negara kapitalis terindustrialisasi dimana negara pinggiran dan negara semi-pinggiran bergantung. Negara inti mengendalikan dan memanfaatkan pasar global. Negara tersebut biasanya dianggap sebagai negara kaya dengan kekayaa sumber daya dan berada di wilayah yang disukai ketimbang negara lain. Negara tersebut memiliki lembaga negara yang kuat, militer yang kuat dan aliansi politik global yang kuat.

Negara inti tak selalu menjadi inti secara permanen. Sepanjang sejarah, negara inti berubah dan negara inti yang baru bertambah pada daftar negara inti. Negara paling berpengaruh pada masa lampau menjadi apa yang kemudian dianggap inti. Negara-negara tersebut meliputi kekaisaran-kekaisaran Asia, India dan Timur Tengah sepanjang berabad-abad sampai abad ke-16, terutama India dan Tiongkok yang menjadi wilayah terkaya di dunia sampai kekuatan-kekuatan Eropa mengambil kepemimpinan, meskipun kekuatan-kekuatan Asia besar seperti Tiongkok masih sangat berpengaruh di wilayahnya. Eropa masih demikian sampai abad ke-20, saat dua Perang Dunia mengganggu ekonomi Eropa. Kemudian, Amerika Serikat dan Uni Soviet, sampai akhir 1980an, menjadi dua hegemoni, menciptakan tatanan dunia bipolar. Jantung negara-negara inti terdiri dari Amerika Serikat, Kanada, sebagian besar Eropa Barat, Jepang, Australia dan Selandia Baru. Penduduk di negara inti jauh lebih kaya dan lebih berpendidikan di dunia.

Pra–abad ke-13

Di Asia, Kekaisaran Tiongkok dianggap sebagai kerajaan tengah dan mengendalikan kawasan tersebut.^[1] Dua kekaisaran tersebut berkomunikasi dan berdagang melalui Jalur Sutra, yang mengambil namanya dari perdagangan besar sutra Tiongkok.^[2]
