Mother-in-law adalah makanan cepat saji dari kota Chicago, Amerika Serikat, yang terdiri dari tamale yang diatapi saus chili con carne (hidangan rebusan daging pedas yang bisa disajikan sebagai saus, lebih singkat disebut chili), disajikan dalam roti hot dog.[1][2][3] Mother-in-law dibuat dengan tamale ala Chicago yang unik di Chicago, yaitu gulungan tepung jagung yang diekstrusi dengan mesin lalu dibungkus kertas dan bukan sekam jagung, yang biasanya dimasak dalam steamer hot dog.[4][5]

Sejarah

Meskipun orang Afro-Amerika yang bermigrasi dari Amerika Selatan mungkin telah membawa tamale ke Chicago,[6] tidak ada yang tahu bagaimana hidangan roti lapis ini dikembangkan.[7][8] Beberapa berspekulasi mungkin pada awalnya berasal dari hidangan torta de tamal Mexico City, yaitu tamale yang disajikan di dalam roti bolillo. Asal-usul yang tepat dari tamale bergaya Chicago juga tidak jelas.[4]
