Mississippi Slim (penyanyi country)

Carvel Lee Ausborn (24 September 1923 - Desember 1973),^[1] yang lebih dikenal dengan nama panggungnya, Mississippi Slim, adalah seorang penyanyi hillbilly yang memiliki sebuah acata radio di WELO, Tupelo pada akhir 1940an.^[2]

Ausborn lahir di Smithville, Mississippi. Menurut Peter Guralnick, ia telah memegang gitar pada usia 13 rahun untuk menjalani karier dalam bermusik. Ia terinspirasi oleh Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb dan sepupu Ausborn Rod Brasfield, sebuah komedian country berpengaruh pada masa itu yang melakukan perjalanan keliling dengan Hank Williams.^[3]

Slim menjelajahi seluruh belahan negara tersebut dengan Goober and His Kentuckians dan Bisbee's Comedians mengadakan acara dan bahkan bergabung dengan Grand Ole Opry sebanyak satu atau dua kali, kebanyakan dalam rangka memperkuat hubungannya dengan sepupunya. Ia juga dikenal sebagai salah satu kritikus dan pahlawan musikal pertama dari Elvis Presley. Selain itu, Elvis Presley mengidolakannya dan Slim menginspirasi Elvis.
