Leganés

Leganés adalah sebuah kota yang merupakan bagian dari konurbasi Madrid, Spanyol. Kota satelit yang banyak dihuni oleh kelas pekerja yang berpenduduk 184.481 jiwa (1 Januari 2005) ini terletak sekitar 10 km barat daya Madrid.

Pada tanggal 3 April 2004, Leganés menjadi tak populer ketika 5 orang yang dicurigai terlibat dalam serangan Madrid 11 Maret 2004 meledakkan diri di sebuah apartemen ketika polisi sedang bergerak untuk meringkus mereka. Mereka semua mati, bersama dengan seorang perwira polisi dari GEO.

Leganés menjadi salah satu tempat cabang Universidad Carlos III, didirikan tahun 1989, yakni Escuela Politecnica Superior (EPS) yang menawarkan pendidikan di bidang teknik telekomunikasi, teknik industri, dan teknik komputer. Universidad Carlos III diakui sebagai perguruan tinggi riset dan pengajaran kelas satu di antara berbagai perguruan tinggi di Spanyol. Kampus lain terletak di Getafe dan Colmenarejo, tetapi kampus Leganés memiliki kolam renang, sedangkan lainnya tidak. Bangunan akomodasi mahasiswa Leganés dikenal sebagai Fernando Abril Martorell dan dapat menampung 300 mahasiswa.

Kota ini dihubungkan ke Madrid melalui Cercanías (KA, jalur C5), dan Metrosur, salah satu jalur KA massal cepat. Leganés memiliki 6 stasiun Metrosur.

Parquesur di Leganés adalah salah satu pusat perbelanjaan terbesar di Eropa pada awal tahun 1990-an. Parquesur diperbaharui total dan diperluas pada tahun 2005.

Leganés memiliki jalan bernama AC/DC untuk menghormati sebuah grup musik Australia. Grup musik ini mengunjungi Leganés untuk membuka jalan tersebut. Rambu-rambu di jalan tersebut sering dicuri hingga dewan memutuskan untuk melukis rambu-rambu tersebut di salah satu dinding jalanan.
