Hipotesis dua injil

Hipotesis Griesbach adalah sebuah solusi awal abad ke-19 terhadap masalah sinoptik. Hipotesis ini mengutamakan Injil Matius, menggambarkan bahwa Injil Lukas didasarkan pada Matius, dan Injil Markus didasarkan pada keduanya. Hipotesis ini diajukan sebagai sebuah alternatif terhadap teori-teori tentang prioritas Markus yang berkembang luas saat itu dan hipotesis dua sumber.

Proposal Griesbach

Apa yang kemudian disebut sebagai Hipotesis Griesbach sudah diantisipasi oleh pakar Britania, Henry Owen (1716-1795), dalam sebuah tulisan yang diterbitkannya pada 1764 dan oleh Friedrich Andreas Stroth (1750-1785) dalam sebuah artikel yang diterbitkannya secara anonym pada 1781. Johann Jakob Griesbach (4 Januari 1745 – 24 Maret 1812), yang kepadanya hipotesis sumber ini pertama kali dikaitkan dan yang untuknya hipotesis ini pernah dinamai, menghubungkan kesimpulannya bahwa Matius adalah yang injil kanonik pertama yang ditulis dan bahwa Lukas, bukan Markus, yang pertama kali memanfaatkan Matius dalam menyusun injil yang kedua dari antara injil-injil kanonik dalam pidato perayaan Paskah di Universitas Jena pada 1783. Dukungan utama Griesbach untuk tesisnya terletak dalam nas-nas di mana Matius dan Lukas saling sepakat dan berbeda dengan Markus (mis. Matius 26:68; Lukas 22:64; Markus 14:65, yang disebut sebagai Kesepakatan kecil. Tidak jelas apakah nas-nas kecil ini hanya sekadar kebetulan atau justru bukti tentang ketergantungan Lukas pada Matius.

Status hipotesis ini

Pada masa kini hipotesis Griesbach hanya diikuti oleh segelintir pakar saja (W. R. Farmer 1964, Bernard Orchard 1976, 1982, 1983, 1987, Enoch Powell 1977,^[2] 1994^[3] dan D. L. Dungan), tetapi berbagai masalah yang ditimbulkannya membuatnya kurang diterima dibandingkan dengan Hipotesis Dua Sumber yang didukung oleh kebanyakan pakar. Karena Farmer menyusun tulisan-tulisan yang panjang lebar yang menentang solusi prioritas Markus yang lebih umum dan mendukung prioritas Matius, solusi ini biasanya disebut Hipotesis Dua Injil karena pendapatnya yang menyatakan bahwa Matius dan Lukas adalah dua injil sinoptik utama sementara Markus adalah karya yang belakangan dan kurang orisional.
