Hari Kemenangan di Eropa

Winston Churchill menyambut kerumunan di Whitehall pada hari ketika ia mengumumkan ke seluruh Britania bahwa perang melawan Jerman telah dimenangkan.
Kerumunan berkumpul dalam perayaan di Piccadilly Circus (Piccadilly Square) pada Hari VE 1945.

Hari Kemenangan di Eropa (Victory in Europe Day atau VE Day) diperingati pada tanggal 8 Mei 1945 (di negara Persemakmuran 7 Mei 1945, di Rusia dan negara-negara bekas Uni Soviet 9 Mei 1945), tanggal ketika Sekutu secara formal menerima penyerahan tanpa syarat angkatan bersenjata Jerman Nazi dan akhir dari Reich Ketiga pada Perang Dunia II. Penyerahan formal pasukan pendudukan Jerman di Kepulauan Channel dilakukan pada 9 Mei 1945. Pada 30 April, Hitler bunuh diri selama Pertempuran Berlin, dan penyerahan Jerman dilaksanakan oleh penggantinya, Presiden Jerman Karl Dönitz. Pemerintahan yang dipimpin Dönitz dikenal sebagai Pemerintahan Flensburg. Penyerahan Jerman ditandatangani pada 7 Mei di Reims, Prancis, dan disahkan pada 8 Mei di Berlin, Jerman.
