Fisika eksperimental

Fisika eksperimental adalah kategori disiplin dan sub-disiplin dalam bidang fisika yang berkaitan dengan pengamatan fisik, fenomena dan percobaan. Metodenya bervariasi dari disiplin ke disiplin, mulai dari percobaan dan pengamatan sederhana seperti percobaan Cavendish, hingga yang lebih rumit seperti Large Hadron Colider.

Fisika eksperimental dianggap telah mencapai titik tinggi dengan penerbitan Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica pada tahun 1687 oleh Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727). Disusul kemudian pada tahun 1687, Newton menerbitkan 'Principia', merinci dua hukum fisika yang komprehensif dan sukses: hukum gerak Newton, sehingga muncul Mekanika klasik hingga Hukum gravitasi universal, yang menggambarkan kekuatan fundamental gravitasi. Kedua hukum tersebut setuju dengan eksperimen. Principia juga memasukkan beberapa teori dalam dinamika fluida.

LHC (Large Hadron Collider) atau Penumbuk Hadron Raksasa, yang konstruksinya selesai pada 2008 tetapi mengalami serangkaian kemunduran. Saat ini ada dua observatorium LIGO: LIGO Livingston Observatory di Livingston, Louisiana dan LIGO Hanford Observatory dekat Richland, Washington.
JWST (James E. Webb James Webb) atau Teleskop luar angkasa James Webb, yang direncanakan akan diluncurkan pada tahun 2021. JWST akan menjadi penerus Teleskop Luar Angkasa Hubble yang akan mensurvei langit di wilayah inframerah. Tujuan utama JWST adalah untuk memahami tahap awal alam semesta, pembentukan galaksi serta formasi bintang dan planet, serta asal usul kehidupan.
