Eksegesis

Alkitab sering kita tafsirkan secara eksegesis.

Eksegesis (bahasa Yunani: ἐξήγησις) adalah sebuah istilah yang dapat diartikan sebagai suatu usaha untuk menafsirkan sesuatu.[1] Istilah eksegese sendiri berasal dari bahasa Yunani "ἐξηγεῖσθαι" (eksigisthe) yang dalam bentuk dasarnya berarti "membawa ke luar atau mengeluarkan".[1] Kata bendanya sendiri berarti "tafsiran" atau "penjelasan".[1][2] Inti dari eksegese adalah dapat menangkap inti pesan yang disampaikan oleh teks-teks yang kita baca.[1] Misalnya ketika kita mendapatkan sepucuk surat dari orang lain, kita pasti berupaya untuk dapat memahami dan mencoba untuk mengartikan apa maksud dari isi surat tersebut.[1] Dewasa ini kata eksegese kita gunakan sebagai sebuah komentar atau penafsiran teks Alkitab untuk menguraikan hal-hal yang tidak jelas dan mencari detail suatu kata atau teks dengan tujuan mendapatkan dan menentukan maknanya yang pasti.[2] Di dalam eksegese modern dimanfaatkan Kritik teks dan keahlian linguistik atau Kritik Sastra, keahlian di bidang sejarah dan sastra (Kritik Sejarah (Alkitab)).[2] Penemuan-penemuan arkeologis juga dapat membantu proses eksegese.[2] Kesalahan salah satu di antaranya akan mengakibatkan kesalahan eksegesis.[2] Kesalahan eksegese yang dapat terjadi misalnya mengenai perumpamaan Yesus tentang Kerajaan Allah.[2] Kerajaan Allah itu selama ini selalu diidentikkan dengan Gereja.[2] Menafsir atau melakukan eksegesis sebenarnya sudah menjadi bidang pekerjaan atau profesi khusus.[1] Hal ini dijadikan sebuah bidang pekerjaan khusus karena adanya kebutuhan untuk menemukan inti pesan dari teks-teks yang ada.[1]
