Carlow (bahasa Irlandia Ceatharlach, berarti «kota di danau») ialah sebuah kota di Republik Irlandia. Merupakan pusat administratif County Carlow dan terletak 84 km dari Dublin. River Barrow mengalir di kota berpenduduk 20.000 jiwa ini. Sungai tersebut membentuk perbatasan dengan County Laois.

Sejarah

Daerah Carlow telah dihuni selama ribuan tahun. Biara St. Mullins dipercaya telah didirikan pada tahun 600-an. Kastel Carlow dibangun oleh William Marshall, earl Striguil dan pangeran Lesinter 1207-1213 untuk mengawal sungai penting yang melintasi itu. Ballyloughan Castle, Ballymoon Castle, Leighlinbridge Castle dan Tower House dibangun pada tahun 1300-an. Saint Patrick's College bermula pada tahun 1793 dan Carlow City Hall dibangun pada tahun 1800-an.

Pada tahun 1650, selama penaklukan Cromwell atas Irlandia, Carlow dikepung dan diambil oleh angkatan Inggris. Selama pemberontakan tahun 1798, Carlow menjadi tempat bagi pembantaian 600 pemberontak dan penduduk sipil oleh United Irishmen setelah serangan mereka yang gagal ke kota ini.
