鰈科（學名：Pleuronectidae）是輻鰭魚綱鰈亞目的其中一科，特點是這科的物種主要（>90%）[2]均用其左側躺在海底，兩眼都擠到右側[1]。與牠們相反的是牙鮃科（Paralichthyidae）：牠們是用其右側躺在海底，兩眼都擠到左側去。

鰈科物種的背鰭跟尾鰭均是長而連續，而背鰭更往頭部延伸。雌性在水中央產卵，而卵要孵化後才會沉到海底去[3]。

分布

本科魚類分布於全球热带及温带各大洋。大多为底层海鱼类，少数进入淡水。[4][5]

深度

由沿岸淺水域至水深1000公尺的海域。

特徵

鰈科物種的特點是其魚體扁平。其本上大多數物種的兩眼都擠到右側，用其左側躺在海底[1]；但亦有個別個體發生侧面逆位(reversal of sides)現像，眼球及有色侧面等移向顺位个体的相对侧面[6]。因此，學術出版一般不會使用「左側」、「右側」，而用「順側」、「盲側」作分別。

鰈科物種的前鰓蓋骨邊緣明顯游離，各鰭無硬棘，背鰭向前延伸至少達眼之上方。背鰭末端完全與尾鰭分離，口端位，上下頷在眼側平直，在盲側成弧形。盲側齒發達，側線單一，前部直走或成弧形。

分類

在某些分類，牙鰈亞科（Paralichthodinae）、瓦鰈亞科（Poecilopsettinae）及菱鰈亞科（Rhombosoleinae）被提升至跟鰈科同級[7][8]，亦有其他分類不再細分作四個亞科。

生態

本科魚屬於夜行性底棲性魚類，屬肉食性，以小魚、甲殼類及無脊椎動物為食。幼魚期兩眼位於不同側，行浮游生活，成長後變態並轉為底棲性，體色隨環境而改變。

經濟利用

肉質佳，部分種類產量大，為重要的經濟魚類。
