זי ווערט אויפגעשטעלט און געצינדן יעדעס יאר זינט 1979, דער דעמאלטיגער פרעזידענט זשימי קאַרטער האט דאן געצינדן די מנורה.

די מנורה איז דרייסיג פיס הויך. עס ווערט אויפגעשטעלט יעדעס יאר דורך דער יעצטיגער חב"ד שליח אין וואשינגטאן די סי, לוי שם טוב. די מנורה צינדן צערעמאניע ווערט ברייט אויפגעשפילט אויף פילע טעלעוויזיע סטאנציעס איבער אמעריקע, און די צערעמאניע געניסט פון גרויס פאפולעריטעט.

אזוי אויך באטייליגן זיך יעדעס יאר ביים צינדן פילע גרויסע פאליטיקאנטן און רעגירונג באאמטער.

היסטאריע

אין 1974 האט דער ליובאוויטשער רבי הרב מנחם מענדל שניאורסאהן געבעטן פון זיינע חסידים און אנהענגער, מען זאל אנהייבן אויפשטעלן און אנצינדן מנורות אין דער עפנטליכקייט אלס פרסומי ניסא.

אין 1979 האט דער חב"ד'סקער שליח רבי אברהם שם טוב אנגעהויבן צו שתדל'ן מען זאל אויפשטעלן א גרויסע מנורה נעבן דאס ווייסע הויז, דער דעמאלטיגער אינערן סעקרעטאר האט אריגינעל אפגעווארפן דעם געדאנק, און זיך אנטזאגט פון געבן ערלויבעניש, זאגנדיג אז דאס איז א פארלעצונג פונעם ערשטן אמענדמענט. עווענטועל האבן זיך אבער דער זאך אויסגעגליכן געווארן, און שם טוב האט ערהאלטן אן ערלויבעניש אויפצושטעלן א מנורה.

דער נאמען "נאציאנאלע מנורה" שטאמט פון פרעזידענט ראנאלד רייגען, וועלכער האט אזוי באטיטלט די מנורה בשעת א דרשה, און עס איז שוין אזוי געבליבן מיט דעם צונאמען.
