Kiều Ngưu

Kiều Ngưu (chữ Hán: 橋牛) là tên 1 nhân vật huyền thoại được cho là sống vào khoảng cuối thời đế Khốc sang thời đế Chí và đầu thời đế Nghiêu trong lịch sử Trung Quốc, theo Sử Ký Tư Mã Thiên - Ngũ Đế bản kỷ thì ông là con của Câu Vọng và là cha của Cổ Tẩu nghĩa là ông nội của Diêu Trọng Hoa tức Ngu Thuấn sau này.

Kiều Ngưu đúng ra là dòng dõi đế Chuyên Húc nhưng ông lại thuộc ngành thứ nên dần dần sa sút mà chỉ là dân thường, tổ 4 đời của ông là Cùng Thiền từng làm quan phụ chính nước Cao Dương vào thời Xứng. Tuy nhiên đến các đời sau lại không kế tục được sự nghiệp cha ông mà tách ra thành tiểu thương rồi đến đời Kiều Ngưu thì chính thức trở về với nông thôn, bấy giờ hễ ai có tài thì được bổ nhiệm chớ chưa có chế độ con ông cháu cha nên tuy hậu duệ đế vương thì vẫn không thể cậy quyền thế hoành hành như các tôn thất hoàng đế chuyên chế về sau.

Kiều Ngưu là người có tính cách "cần kiệm liêm chính, chí công vô tư" nên hay giúp đỡ kẻ khác khiến người đời rất thán phục, ông chẳng bao giờ lấy cái uy của dòng dõi đế vương để dọa nạt hay khoe khoang với thiên hạ. Con dâu của ông là Ốc Đăng chẳng may mất sớm mà con trai thì đi lấy vợ kế, cháu nội ông là Diêu Trọng Hoa được đưa ra ở với ông từ nhỏ. Ông thường kể cho cháu nghe những điển tích thánh hiền và những công trạng của nhiều bậc vĩ nhân đời thái cổ, điều này khiến cho Trọng Hoa ảnh hưởng rất sâu sắc đến cách ăn ở sau này với cha và mẹ kế cùng 2 em khác mẹ là Tượng và Hệ.

Kiều Ngưu nuôi cháu nội được khoảng hơn 10 năm thì ông lâm bệnh qua đời, Trọng Hoa buộc phải về ở với cha và chuỗi ngày cơ cực nhất của vị Thánh Đế nổi tiếng thời thượng cổ cũng bắt đầu.
