Цоколь (алгебра)

В абстрактній алгебрі поняття цоколя має кілька пов'язаних значень.

Цоколь модуля M над кільцем R — сума всіх його простих підмодулів. При їх відсутності цоколь вважається нульовим. Відповідно до даного визначення в кільці можна розглядати його лівий і правий цоколі. Кожен з них виявляється двостороннім ідеалом інваріантним щодо всіх ендоморфізмів кільця. Цоколь представляється у вигляді прямої суми простих модулів.

Напівпрості модулі можна охарактеризовані як модулі, що збігаються із своїм цоколем. Також цоколь можна визначити як перетин всіх суттєвих підмодулів модуля M, тобто підмодулів $N^{'}\subseteq M.\,$ для яких $N\cap M\neq 0.\,$ для всіх ненульових підмодулів $N^{'}\subseteq M.\,$

В теорії груп, цоколь групи G, позначається Soc(G), підгрупа породжена мінімальними нетривіальними нормальними підгрупами G. Цоколь є прямим добутком мінімальних нормальних підгруп G. Наприклад, циклічна група $\mathbb {Z} _{12}$ породжена елементом u, має дві мінімальні нетривіальні нормальні підгрупи, одна породжена u₄, інша породжена u₆. Отже цоколем $\mathbb {Z} _{12}$ є група породжена u₄ і u₆, тобто група породжена u₂.
