Франсуа-Альфонс Форель (фр. François Alphonse Forel; 2 лютого 1841, Морж — 7 серпня 1912, там же) — швейцарський вчений, який керував дослідженням озер, вважається засновником лімнології.

Життєпис

Працював професором медицини в Університеті Лозанни.

Головна праця — «Le Leman», опублікована в трьох томах між 1892 і 1904 роками, присвячена дослідженню озер.

У співпраці з італійським сейсмологом Мішель Стефано де Россі, він розробив шкалу для опису інтенсивності землетрусу.
