Treating them as same language is the same thing as treating Ukrainian language as a dialect of Ukrainian. Serbo-Croatian is a political construction from the times of socialist Yugoslavia, when the Yugounitarist in Yugoslav regime propagated that "Croatian and Serbian are one language, two nations one language". Therefore the doublename. Although in the beginnings of socialist Yugoslavia (1944), authorities were explicit that documents must be written in four languages (Croatian, Slovenian, Serbian and Macedonian), Yugounitarists (hidden form of Greaterserbianists) were getting more and more influential. In reality, Serbian was imposed at the expense of Croatian. In the times of Royalist Yugoslavia (1918-1941), regime propagated the idea of "one nation with three names". Official language was "Serbocroatoslovenian". In socialist Yugoslavia (1945-1991), every republic had its own official language. In SR Croatia, official language was Croatian. 1974-1990 was called in official documents as "Croatian or Serbian"; "Croatian or Serbian" language wasn't the same as official language of SR Serbia "Serbocroatian". That difference was obvious on the banknotes, that had text in four languages. The text in Croatian (1974-1990 "Croatian or Serbian") that was written in Latin letters, wasn't simply transliterated to Cyrillic. E.g., the banknote of 1000 dinars was in Croatian "tisuću dinara", while in Serbian was "hiljada dinara". The tradition of Serbian language is to import foreign words, while the tradition of Croatian language is to translate foreign words into Croatian, or simply to coin its own word, rather than taking it from other languages. From that reason Croatian has so many Slavic-rooted words, unlike Serbian. During Yugoslav era, any Croatian attempt to emphasize and distinguish Croatian from Serbian was etiquetted as "nationalist, enemy of the revolution, contrarevolutionary...". Ukrainians can recognize themselves, seeing problems that Croats and Croatian language had. Therefore, сербохорватська мова should go into "other" (constructed languages).
