Морські́ зірки́ (Asteroidea, від грец. ἀστήρ — зірка) — клас безхребетних тварин типу голкошкірих. Налічує близько 1600 сучасних видів. У викопному стані відомі з ордовика.

Опис

Тварини мають більш-менш пласке тіло з багатьма осями симетрії, що поділяють його на окремі сегменти — так звані промені. Морські зірки мають 5, 6, 7, 8, а в деяких випадках навіть 50 променів. На кінці кожного з них знаходиться крихітне око, яке може лише відрізняти світло від темряви. Морські зірки бувають яскравих кольорів: жовті, жовтогарячі, червоні, фіолетові, рідше зелені, блакитні, сірі, сині. Інколи морські зірки сягають розміру 1 м у поперечнику, найменші — кілька міліметрів.

Спосіб життя

Ці тварини рухаються дуже повільно, проповзаючи за годину близько 10 м. Вигинаючи промені, вони здатні збиратися на водорості, камені, а деякі види можуть навіть незграбно плавати на невеликі відстані. Морські зірки повільні та беззубі, але як і хижаки, вони їдять двостулкових молюсків, офіур, морських їжаків, крабів, трупи померлих риб і морських ссавців. Глибоководні види харчуються мулом, перетравлюючи органічні рештки, які знаходяться в ньому.
