Tremoktopus, subtropikal ve tropikal denizlerde orta sularda ortaya çıkan dört tür içeren pelajik sefalopod cinsidir.[2] Genellikle battaniye ahtapotu olarak bilinirler ve yetişkin dişilerin sırt ve sırt yanı kollarını bağlayan uzun, şeffaf ağlardan ötürü bu adı almışlardır. Diğer kollar çok daha kısadır.

Tremoctopus violaceus, mikroskopik olmayan herhangi bir hayvanda bilinen en aşırı derecede eşeysel dimorfizmi sergiler.[3][4] Dişiler 2 m uzunluğunda olabilir, erkeklerde ise 2.4 cm'dir. Ağırlık oranı en az 10.000:1'dir ve muhtemelen 40.000:1'e kadar ulaşabilir.
