Supernoba

Ang SN 1994D (Nasa kumikinang na puwesto sa kaibabaang kaliwa), isang type Ia supernova na nasa loob ng kanyang tahanang galaksiya, ang NGC 4526

Ang supernoba na pinaikling SN ay isang pambituing pagsabog na mas enerhetiko kesa sa isang nova. Ang mga supernovae ay labis na luminoso at nagsasanhi ng putok(burst) ng radiasyon na kalimitan ay maikling lumalagpas ang kaliwanagan kesa sa buong galaksiya bago maglaho mula paningin sa loob ng ilang mga linggo o buwan.

Hindi katulad ng nova, ang pagsabog ng supernoba ay isang mapanganib na pangyayari sa buhay ng isang bituin.[1] Ayon sa NASA, ang pagsabog ng isang supernoba ay "ang pinakamalaking pagsabog na nagaganap sa kalawakan".[2] Ito ay nagreresulta ng isang bituing neutron (neutron star) o isang black hole.[1]

Bago pa man ang pagkaimbento ng telescope noong ika-17 siglo, maraming mga sinaunang sibilisasyon ang nagtala ng pagkadiskubre ng mga supernoba. Ang pinakalumang tala ng isang supernoba ay ang RCW 86, kung saan ito'y nadiskubre ng mga sinaunang Tsino noong 185 AD. [2] Isa rin sa mga sikat na nadiskubreng supernoba ay ang Crab Nebula na nadiskubre noong 1054 AD at ang natitirang labi nito ay nakikita pa rin sa kalawan hanggang ngayon.[1]
