Auguste Comte (1798–1857)

Ang sosyolohiya o dalub-ulnungan (Aleman: soziologie, Kastila, Portuges: sociologia, Ingles: sociology) ay isang agham panlipunan na tumutuon pag-aaral ng mga panlipunang paguugaling tao, mga hulwaran ng panlipunang kaugnayan, panlipunang pagkapakikiugnayan, mga aspetong kasama ng kalinangan sa pang-araw-araw na buhay, at alituntunin ng lipunan at mga proseso na binibigkis at hinihiwalay ang mga tao hindi lamang bilang mga indibiduwal kundi bilang kasapi ng mga samahan, pangkat, at institusyon. Gumagamit ito ng maraming pamamaraan ng masiring pagsisiyasat at kritikal na pagsusuri upang bumuo ng kaalaman tungkol sa panlipunang kaayusan at panlipunang pagbago.  Samantalang ang ilang dalubulnong ay nagsasagawa ng pananaliksik na maaaring tuwirang ilapat sa panlipunang patakaran at kapakanan, ang iba ay pangunahing nakatuon sa paglinang at pagpapadalisay ng panghunaing pagkakaunawa sa mga prosesong panlipunanl. Ang paksa ay maaaring saklaw mula sa pinakamaliit na antas na pagsusuri ng lipunan (i.e. ng indibidwal na pakikipag-ugnayan) hanggang sa pangmalakihang pagsusuri (tulad ng mga. ng mga panlipunang samaugnayan at panlipunang kaayusan).[1]

Tinatawag ito, sa isang kahulugan sa isang tipiwadkal na aklat, bilang ang pag-aaral sa mga buhay na panlipunan ng mga tao, grupo, at lipunan. Interesado ang sosyolohiya sa ating pag-uugali bilang mga nilalang na marunong makisama; sa ganitong paraan sinasakop ng nagustuhang larangan sa sosyolohiya mula sa pagsusuri ng maiikling pakikitungo sa pagitan ng hindi magkakilalang indibiduwal sa daan hanggang sa pag-aaral ng proseso ng pandaigdigang lipunan.
