Abyad

Ang sulat Arabe ay isang uri ng abyad.

Ang abyad ay isang sistemang panulat na kung saan ang lahat - o halos lahat - ng mga titik ay ang mga katinig lamang. Ang mambabasa mismo ang magbibigay ng mga kinakailangan na patinig.

Paggamit

Ginagamit ang mga abyad sa pagsusulat ng mga wika na kung saan mababa lamang ang kahalagahan ng mga patinig, lalo na sa mga wikang Semitiko tulad ng Arabe o Ebreo. Gayunman, mayroong idinagdag na ilang mga patinig sa karamihan ng mga makabagong abyad, kaya kung minsan itinuturing ang mga ito na "hindi wagas na abyad".
